Tastyfy is a recipe app for people between the ages of 21-55 who are enthusiastic about cooking.

Users can use Tastyfy as they would social media, following other users who post recipes they like, and having different ways to search for recipes.

Tastyfy values connection, learning and sustainability. Users are not only able to search, save and post recipes but the “featured” section of the “explore” page features recipes which produce no waste.

3 existing recipes apps were analyzed in order to understand current design patterns, existing features and usability of the apps.

17 users between the ages of 23 and 54 were surveyed about their cooking habits, recipe app use as well as recipe app wants and needs. Read surveys and responses here.

3 users between the ages of 31 and 54 were shown two different mid fidelity wireframe designs and two different logos.

Users were asked:
1. Which design of the two do you prefer and why?

2.The brand values of Tastyfy are connection, sustainability, and learning. Which logo do you think better represent these values?

Findings:

  • 2 of 3 users said they preferred idea #2.

  • 2 of 3 users said they preferred the logo 1, though one user said he only preferred the root vegetable more because it better matched the brand values.

  • One user noted that having the tabs for “explore” and “for you” as very logical.

Feedback was taken from preference testing to create mid fidelity screens.

High fidelity wireframes were created for prototyping and usability testing.

5 users between the ages of 23 and 55 were asked to complete the tasks of search by ingredients and find a saved recipe.

A pop up page was added to confirm the recipe and where it is being saved was added.

Feedback from usability tests was used to create final iterations and improve on the design and usability of the app.

Changes were made to the navigation bar to make sections more obvious.

  • Conducting user interviews would have been helpful to better understand user pain points and needs in a deeper way.

  • Tastyfy’s features are limited in comparison to other recipe apps which help users make grocery lists etc.

  • User feedback throughout the process through preference and usability tests helped create a more positive user experience.

  • User feedback on search feature was positive.

  • User pain points from usability testing was addressed and iterated on to resolve issues users had.
